Ice climbing course Sweden

Ice climbing is both beautiful and challenging. On this course, we will teach you how to climb and belay when ice climbing with a focus both on equipment, techniques, movement patterns and safety.

The course is given partly in Åre/Duved and in Abisko as a 2-day course. That is, perfect to reach by night train from southern Sweden.

See info on the dates below where you book.

It is different from year to year when we can start ice climbing. Usually there is nice ice to climb from November in Abisko and from December in Åre / Duved.

Basic course in ice climbing is a two-day course according to the standards of the Swedish Climbing Association. To ensure a good and safe learning situation, we accept min 2 / max 4 students per instructor.

All our instructors are certified mountain guides (UIAGM/IFMGA) and/or certified ice climbing instructors (Svenska Klätterförbundet).

Length of the course

Two consecutive days, about 7-8 hours per day. It is perfectly possible to take the night train up (then you can change trains and get ready and our guide will pick you up at the station and you can head straight out to the ice climbing). After the course on the second day, the guide will drop you off at the train station again and you can take the night train back.

Course content

We go through basic ice climbing technique, standing position on ice, abseiling technique, top rope anchors, what risks there are in ice climbing and much more. All the time with safety in focus.

Course objectives

The course will increase your skills in order to be able to climb ice safely and effectively. After the course, you should feel confident to go out and climb top rope on your own or go as second man with a more experienced friend.

This course is suitable for anyone who wants to learn ice climbing and who wants to get a safe and good foundation from which to develop further.
