Vinterexpedition Sarek - Toppturer och hundspann i svenska vildmarken

This trip in Europe’s last wilderness is our most demanding ski touring itinerary.

In Sarek there is nothing and everything. No trails, no huts, no motor vehicles, no people, no help.

There are over 100 glaciers, a very alpine topography with 8 summits over two thousand meters, amazing ski touring with countless descents over 1000m vertical, including Sweden’s longest ski run of over 1500m vertical and fantastic wildlife.

This is an area that requires respect. Nobody will be able to help us here if anything goes wrong. You need to be fit and used to camping outdoors in winter. We will often do ascents over 1500m vertical per day.

We will be crossing Sarek while ascending numerous summits and having great ski descents.

Expedition itinerary
We use Dog sledges to pull our camping gear and food. We carry daypacks with our safety equipment, food for the day and extra clothes while we ascend a summit and ski down. Some of the summits will involve a little more technical ascents with crampons and ropes. We ski down to camp were we meet our dogs, basecamp and the friendly dog mushers. If we are lucky they have had the time to set up camp and the food is ready. We eat well in our common base tent.

Then it is time to go to sleep in your sleeping tents which are of the highest quality. The northern lights light up the sky and the dogs sing a last song to show that they are there as a pack.

We get up early to ensure we have enough time for the days’ ascent and to time a fantastic decent in the right snow conditions.

We keep on like this for nine days and when we are getting out of the park everybody will have a new view on life and feel stronger than ever.

The itinerary will be finalized right before we enter the wild. But we would aspire to leave from Saltoloukta mountain station and come out in Ritsem.  The group will ski tour with light alpine ski-touring equipment and daypacks. Imagine that the group makes the two vertical legs of a triangle and the dogsledge makes the horizontal one. That is how we cross sarek national park. We may sleep in a snow bivouac in order to get some more freedom.

We will summit Sarkektjokka, Sweden’s highest mountain without ice, and Akka, the laps holy mountain – also over 2000m and with Sweden’s biggest decent over 1500m vertical.
